1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to the site owner. We also use similar technologies such as pixels and local storage, and we refer to all of these as “cookies” in this policy.
2. The cookies we use
We use the following categories of cookie:
| Category | What it does | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Essential for the Platform to work — for example keeping you logged in, remembering your basket/subscription checkout, and keeping the site secure. These cannot be switched off. | Session & login cookies, WooCommerce checkout cookies, security cookies |
| Functional | Remember choices you make to improve your experience, such as saved cars and preferences. | Preference and saved-item cookies |
| Analytics | Help us understand how visitors use the Platform so we can improve it. This information is aggregated. | Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit), Microsoft Clarity, and our own Key2Car measurement |
| Advertising | Used to show and measure advertising, which may be tailored to your interests. | Google AdSense |
3. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third parties who provide services on our behalf. These include Google (analytics and AdSense advertising), Microsoft (Clarity, which shows us how pages are used), our payment providers (for secure checkout), and our live-chat/support tool. These third parties process data in accordance with their own privacy and cookie policies. You can read about how Google uses cookies at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies, and about Microsoft Clarity at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
4. Your consent
Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because they are essential to provide the service you have requested. For all other cookies (functional, analytics and advertising), we rely on your consent, which you can give or withdraw at any time using the controls described below. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it.
5. How to manage cookies
You can control and delete cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings – most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See your browser’s help pages (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox). Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Platform working.
- Google Analytics – you can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Google advertising – you can manage ad personalisation in your Google Ad Settings.
- Microsoft Clarity and our own measurement – both only run if you have accepted cookies. Choosing to reject non-essential cookies, in the Cookie settings on this site, switches them off.
6. Measuring how the site is used
When you accept cookies, we record a small amount of information about how the site is used so we can see which cars people are interested in and improve how Key2Car works. This is our own measurement, stored on our own systems, and it is never sold or shared for advertising.
We record the action taken — for example a car being viewed, saved, or an enquiry being sent — along with the car concerned and the page it happened on. We do not store your IP address, and we do not build a profile of you as an individual.
To do this we set one additional first-party cookie, k2c_src, which lasts 30 days and remembers only where you arrived from (for example a search engine or an advert). It lets us tell which of our adverts are worth paying for. It contains no personal details.
None of this runs unless you have accepted cookies. If you reject non-essential cookies, no measurement takes place. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link.
We also use Microsoft Clarity, a Microsoft tool that shows us how pages are actually used — where people scroll, what they tap, and where they get stuck — so we can fix the awkward parts of the site. Clarity hides anything you type, and we have told it to blank out your account, checkout and listing pages in your browser before anything is sent, so it does not capture your name, address, payment details or messages. It sets two cookies of its own, _clck and _clsk, to join up the pages of a single visit. Microsoft processes this data on our behalf, and you can read their privacy statement at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the cookies we use or for legal reasons. The “last updated” date above shows the latest version.
